Mr Murray Thomas is the second male Head of Roedean School (SA). He was born in Johannesburg, but was educated in Kwazulu-Natal. After Matriculating at Kearsney College, Mr Thomas studied at Rhodes University completing his teaching qualification at St Andrew’s College. After his initial post in Pretoria he travelled, worked and completed a post-graduate Masters in International and Comparative Education at the University of Oxford in England.
Since then, his career has spanned three continents and includes posts in the United Kingdom, Taiwan, The Netherlands and South Africa. He has been a History Examiner for the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme and has represented the Council of International Schools as an accreditation team member, visiting schools in the British Virgin Islands and Italy. On returning to South Africa in 2007, Mr Thomas served as Deputy Principal of Lebone II College of the Royal Bafokeng, and most recently, as Head of St Peter’s College. He was the regional coordinator of the Global Teacher’s Institute and assisted with the AXIS Education Summit hosted by the Wits School of Governance and Education. Having taught for 23 years across a range of schools, he looks forward to a long and happy association with Roedean School (SA) and her wider community.
Mr Thomas is married to Joanne and they have three children, Scott-Grade 9; Kyle- Grade 7; and Roan- Grade-5.
